NBA Mock Draft 6.0: Is anyone’s ceiling higher than Anthony Edwards?
By Ian Levy
I don’t think you’ll find too many NBA fans who feel confident in Cleveland’s chances of conjuring a star out of the backcourt trio of Darius Garland, Collin Sexton and Kevin Porter Jr., as interesting as they are. And while a frontcourt of Larry Nance Jr., Andre Drummond and Kevin Love has competitive potential, it’s running on a very different timeline than the backcourt. Suffice it to say, the Cavaliers could go several different directions, looking for young talent upgrades in either place.
Vassell has a slender frame but he’s about 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan. Between that and he’s exceptional defensive acumen, he could be a full-time 3 at the next level. That slots him in between the veteran frontcourt and young backcourt and with his skill set, he could raise the floor now and be a key piece for the future. Vassell is probably the best 3-and-D prospect in the class and has the upside to do even more on offense. He’s probably not the star the Cavs are still looking for but whatever position that star eventually emerges at, Vassell could complement them well.
