3 players who won’t be on the San Francisco 49ers roster after 2020 season

The 49ers had the biggest flex of the 2017 NFL Draft. Holding the second overall pick, general manager John Lynch convinced the Chicago Bears that they were going to take Mitchell Trubisky. The Bears panicked and sent the 49ers a bevy of draft picks to move up one spot. While San Francisco won that trade, it’s bittersweet, considering they opted to take Solomon Thomas with the third overall pick.
Thomas, ironically, was a classmate of John Lynch at Stanford, who saw firsthand how dominant Thomas was as an edge rusher. But that play has never translated into the pros. Thomas has missed only two games through his first three seasons, and he’s only accumulated six sacks in that span. That’s terrible value for a third overall pick who was projected as the second best defensive end in the class, behind Myles Garrett.
San Francisco already declined Thomas’ fifth-year option, and barring a miraculous season, his time with the team will reach its end after the 2020 season.
