10 quarterbacks who can lead the NFL in passing yards in 2020
The Chiefs didn’t hand Mahomes a contract worth up to $503 million for him to be anything less than elite. He absolutely deserves to be the favorite to lead NFL quarterbacks in a multitude of statistical categories in 2020.
Anyone who questions Mahomes’ arm talent doesn’t understand football. He’s got the athleticism and skill to make every throw in the playbook at a high level. Add in his innate ability to invent new throws to wow fans on a regular basis and it’s easy to understand why the Chiefs were willing to commit so much money to keep him in Kansas City.
In fairness, Mahomes also works with one of the smartest offensive minds in football. Andy Reid doesn’t get quite enough credit for his tutelage of the former Texas Tech star. His innovative play design and play calling help Mahomes get the most out of his talent.
Of course, the 24-year-old also has a ton of offensive talent to work with. Tyreek Hill is one of the most explosive players in football. Sammy Watkins might be inconsistent, but he’s a real threat as the No. 2 option at wide receiver. Add Travis Kelce and Mecole Hardman to those options and it’s clear that Kansas City has one of the best skill position groups in the NFL.
Nothing Mahomes can do in 2020 should surprise anyone. He’s shattered the mold of what’s possible at the quarterback position. Leading the league in passing shouldn’t even make headlines for a player of his caliber.
