10 quarterbacks who can lead the NFL in passing yards in 2020
Cowboys fans might want to see Prescott higher up on this list, but the presence of Ezekiel Elliott in his backfield will prevent him from throwing as many passes as he might like. That balance is good for Dallas’ win total, but not great for Prescott’s individual stats.
That doesn’t mean he won’t have a big year. The Cowboys have one of the best wide receiver trios in the NFL. Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup were really good for Prescott last season. The addition of Jerry Jeudy transforms the group from good to great.
The biggest question for Prescott is whether or not he can reasonably be expected to take another step forward after his massive 2019 campaign. He threw for 4,902 yards last year which exceeded his previous career-high by over 1,000 yards. This year might be more about consolidating his progress than reaching new heights for the former Mississippi State standout.
Of course, Mike McCarthy’s arrivals as the Cowboys head coach could also give the team’s passing attack a healthy uptick. He’ll want to push the ball down the field more than Dallas did last season. That could help Prescott throw for more yards than ever before if everything breaks right.
