AFC West power rankings: Who has the best offense?
By Mike Luciano
Don’t act surprised, this was as obvious as it gets.
It’s hard to find one area where the Chiefs are even average on offense. The mercurial Patrick Mahomes is very clearly an elite quarterback that can crank out 300 games like it’s nothing, and the arrow will only continue to point upward as long as he plays with so much elite talent.
Mahomes is surrounded by the game’s best tight end in Travis Kelce, best right tackle in Mitchell Schwartz, and the best pure deep threat in Tyreek Hill. The offensive line isn’t elite at all five spots, but every spot is at least serviceable.
Even the running backs room, a detriment to Kansas City last year, has been given the shot in the arm it needed following the selection of Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the draft. Kansas City’s offense over the last two years is an example of what happens when elite talent, schemes, and coaching all intersect for one fleeting moment.
When you add elite offensive coaching led by the evil genius that is Andy Reid and the criminally underrated Eric Bieniemy at offensive coordinator, and the Chiefs are set up nicely for a decade of dominance with Mahomes at the center of it all. As long as No. 15 is behind center, the road to the AFC West crown will have to run through Arrowhead Stadium.
