These 4 teams should find a way to pay Dak Prescott if the Cowboys won’t
While the Indianapolis Colts are unlikely to be the first team to come to mind as a potential Prescott suitor, they just may be the best fit. The Colts tout the NFL’s best offensive line, a scrappy defense and an all-around talented roster.
After Andrew Luck abruptly retired ahead of the 2019 season, Indianapolis was left with a playoff-ready roster and no signal caller. Although Jacoby Brissett filled in admirably, he was erratic at times and showed why he is better suited to be a high-end backup.
The Colts signed longtime Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers in the hopes that he can lead the team back to the playoffs in 2020, but the veteran is a one-year stopgap at best and had one of his worst seasons in 2019.
Prescott could instantly make Indianapolis the best team in the AFC South. After the Texans traded away DeAndre Hopkins, the division title looks to be up for grabs, and although the Titans made a deep playoff run in 2019, Prescott would give the Colts a higher ceiling than Ryan Tannehill gives Tennessee.
The fit in the offense is seamless as well. Head coach Frank Reich has a reputation as a quarterback whisperer, and receivers T.Y. Hilton and Michael Pittman Jr. would give Prescott plenty of options. With elite protection and running backs Marlon Mack and Jonathan Taylor available to shoulder some of the offensive burden, Prescott could be the missing piece for an AFC contender.
Money is not a concern either. Even after paying DeForest Buckner, the Colts have over $100 million in cap space for the 2021 offseason and beyond. If Dallas and Prescott decide to cut ties, whether after one or two years on the franchise tag, the Colts are the perfect team to sign him.
