3. New Orleans Saints

Out of nowhere heading into Week 17 last season, the Saints had Brown in for a workout. He was not signed at such a late stage though, and New Orleans has also lingered in the conversation around Dez Bryant when the idea of his own NFL return comes up.

Head coach Sean Payton may have let the cat out the bag, but this may indeed wind up being Drew Brees’ final season. He has a contract to work for NBC in his pocket whenever he’s ready to stop playing, and he’s clearly a year-to-year proposition now if he wasn’t to some degree before. So the Saints should be all-in to win another Super Bowl with the future Hall of Famer under center this year.

The Saints signed Emmanuel Sanders in free agency, which narrows the huge production gap there’s been between Michael Thomas and the rest of the wide receivers. But Brown would not be expensive to take a flier on, and if he’s healthy/fully engaged, New Orleans would have a formidable and enviable wide receiver trio.

If the Saints just wanted to get a look at Brown last December, real clarity on his status (if it’s coming) will automatically push them into the conversation to sign him.
