2020 Memorial Picks

Hideki Matsuyama 9,400

Matsuyama is striking the ball pure. His putting is typical, but his short game has also not been up to par. He is playing well, and this course suits his eye. If he can roll in some putts this week he is going to rack up birdies in a hurry.

Hideki ranks 1st overall in my model. In this field, Hideki-bot ranks 3rd in TTG and 4th in SG Total. He is lights out in every stat in my model except putting. He also loves this course and can get hot with his putter on bentgrass.

Brooks Koepka 9,100

Too cheap for Brooks. It is not a major, but he does not like to look stupid missing cuts. I am guessing, but I would guess he stayed in Ohio and is prepping for this week like a major. He knows all eyes will be on Muirfield with the big cat (Tiger Woods) returning to the field. Brooks plays well in rain, plays well on long difficult courses, and plays well in thick rough. Sign me up.

Patrick Reed 8,400

Watching Reed at the 2019 Memorial I was a huge fan of his ability to flight down his wedges into the greens. The tree line at this course affords you the opportunity to keep it low and avoid the wind. Reed made the cut last week and looked okay, but I am rolling with Reed again this week. He is a superb Bentgrass putter (top in the field), his iron game is trending, and he is sneaky good at longer par 72 courses. Reed can also get Uber hot and win in any field – Bet this guy at 55-1!
