2020 NFL First-Team All-Pro Defense

Cornerbacks

Stephon Gilmore, New England Patriots
Tre’Davious White, Buffalo Bills

The top two corners in the league might flip-flop rankings in 2020, with White taking the throne at the top – but they’ll still be the best two in the game and make the voters’ jobs very easy once again.

2019 Honorees: Stephon Gilmore, New England Patriots; Tre’Davious White, Buffalo Bills

Safeties

Minkah Fitzpatrick, Pittsburgh Steelers
Tyrann Mathieu, Kansas City Chiefs

It is rare for a safety to finally have a coming out party in their seventh NFL season, but Mathieu did exactly that en route to helping lead the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl in 50 years.

In the same year, Fitzpatrick made the Steelers looks brilliant for trading just a first-round pick for his services. He is a young, athletic, star on the rise.

2019 Honorees: Jamal Adams, New York Jets; Minkah Fitzpatrick, Pittsburgh Steelers

Defensive Back

Jalen Ramsey, Los Angeles Rams
Marshon Lattimore, New Orleans Saints
Darius Slay, Philadelphia Eagles

For whatever reason, the AP added this category of players to the All-Pro roster and has typically included primarily cornerbacks with some safeties who excel in coverage (see Mathieu, 2019). Ramsey has had a full year with the Rams now and with that transition, and injuries, behind him, can return to the dominant force he is.

Lattimore is a top-five player at the cornerback position and should be even better with an improved Saints defense this year. Slay got the trade he desired from Detroit and will now headline the secondary for the Eagles – expect him to excel there.

2019 Honorees: Marcus Peters, Baltimore Ravens; Tyrann Mathieu, Kansas City Chiefs; and Marlon Humphrey, Baltimore Ravens
