26. NFL Power Rankings: Detroit Lions

This is a critical year for Matt Patricia, who has to turn the team around quickly to avoid getting fired. Detroit’s offseason was certainly strange as the team threw big money at guys like Halapoulivaati Vaitai. The Lions also saw some turnover in the secondary, trading the disgruntled Darius Slay to the Eagles while signing Desmond Trufant and drafting Jeff Okudah to overhaul the back end.

Better health from Matthew Stafford will be critical as the Lions failed to win a game without him in 2019. Even if Stafford can stay on the field a tough division will make it extremely difficult for Detroit to make enough noise to save Patricia’s job.

25. NFL Power Rankings: New York Jets

Year two of the Adam Gase era brings with it an improved roster and a tougher schedule. Quarterback Sam Darnold played well in the second half but needs to take a significant leap forward to get the Jets back to the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

GM Joe Douglas did a lot of good work in the offseason, bulking up the offensive line and adding a ton of depth on the defensive side of the ball. There is a wide degree of variance with this Jets’ team, with the high-end outcome being a playoff berth and competing for the AFC East crown while the low end features a 4-12 disaster that would send New York back to the drawing board at head coach.
