Each NFL team’s biggest Pro Football Hall of Fame snub
New York Jets – Mark Gastineau, DE
The Jets selected Gastineau in the second round of the 1979 NFL Draft. The star played for 10 seasons with the team during which time he had 74 sacks (not a recorded stat for the first two seasons of his career), including leading the league in sacks in 1983 and ’84 (19 and 22, respectively). Gastineau earned five Pro Bowl trips during his career and was also honored with three First-Team All-Pro selections.
Philadelphia Eagles – Donovan McNabb, QB
With the No. 2 overall pick in 1999, the Eagles selected McNabb from Syracuse. McNabb would go on to have a 13 year NFL career, 11 of which he competed for the Eagles. A career which featured six Pro Bowl selections left McNabb with four conference title game appearances, one Super Bowl appearance, and more than 37,000 yards passing and 234 touchdowns.
Pittsburgh Steelers – Alan Faneca, G
Faneca started his tenure with 10 years in Pittsburgh and finished with three more years with the Jets and Cardinals. He was a nine-time Pro Bowler who was also a six-time First-Team All-Pro selections. He has the most First-Team All-Pro selections of any player not in the Hall of Fame, and his omission, after five years of eligibility, is egregious.
San Francisco 49ers – Bryant Young, DT
Young played in the trenches for 14 years for the 49ers, and was a legitimate force his entire career. In 219 games, Young was integral in the team’s 1994 Super Bowl run, and he amassed 89.5 career sacks over his career. He also forced 12 fumbles and had over 600 career tackles en route to four Pro Bowl appearances and a 1996 First-Team All-Pro selection.
