The Colts were not happy with what they got from Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback in 2019. That made acquiring an upgrade in the offseason one of the team’s top priorities. The big question is whether or not Rivers is actually better than Brissett.

Rivers’ lack of mobility makes it obvious that Brissett is the better rusher. Rivers is a statue in the pocket. The Colts have a terrific offensive line but they’ll need to be excellent with their pass blocking to keep Rivers upright.

The Colts hope that Rivers is a significantly better passer than Brissett. His play for the Chargers in 2019 should not give the franchise any confidence in that department. The 20 interceptions he threw should have been a huge red flag for the Indianapolis front office.

Instead, the Colts threw a bunch of money at a 38-year-old quarterback coming off the worst season of his career. The only good news is that they didn’t give him a long-term deal. There’s a serious chance that Brissett takes his job and makes this signing look like one of the worst decisions of the offseason before Week 8 arrives.
