2. DeMarcus Lawrence

Lawrence is in the midst of the five-year, $105 million contract he signed with the Cowboys before the 2019 season. That’s a lot of money for an edge rusher who only sacked the quarterback five times a year ago.

Cowboys fans defend Lawrence by pointing out the lack of help Dallas gives him along the defensive line. He certainly draws a ton of double teams, but elite players manage to succeed despite facing that kind of blocking. Lawrence doesn’t win enough of those battles to merit serious All-Pro consideration.

The addition of Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe should give Lawrence more chances to work against single blocking schemes in 2020. It quietly makes this an important campaign for the 28-year-old edge rusher.

The Cowboys offense is getting all of the headlines in Big D at the moment, but the defense could determine the team’s fate next year. Lawrence has to get back to notching double-digit sacks on an annual basis.
