MLB power rankings: Who is best in American League?
These five teams could all win the World Series, and nobody should be surprised. Tampa Bay’s lineup is light on proven bats, but the rotation is absurd. Charlie Morton is a fantastic veteran. Then there’s the Cy Young award-winning Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Ryan Yarbrough. The bullpen is equally deep. If the Rays get any offense, look out.
The Twins won more than 100 games last year and return the same lineup which set an all-time record for home runs in a single season. Oh, and they added Josh Donaldson. Jake Odorizzi and Jose Berrios are a strong 1-2 punch in the rotation. The only question here is how the back portion of the staff holds up.
If rookie hurlers Jesus Luzardo and A.J. Puk deliver on their enormous potential, Oakland might have the most complete roster in baseball. The rotation already has a solid trio in Frankie Montas, Sean Manaea and Mike Fiers, with closer Liam Hendriks coming off an All-Star campaign. The lineup is deep and the infield is baseball’s best with Marcus Semien, Matt Chapman and Matt Olson. Also, keep an eye on center fielder Ramon Laureano. Tools for days.
The Bronx Bombers are exactly that in 2020. New York is loaded with hitters in Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, D.J. LeMahieu, Miguel Andujar, Gary Sanchez and more. With the addition of Gerrit Cole to the rotation, New York is primed to make a serious run at its first World Series appearance in more than a decade. The main question? Health.
Houston is loaded, even after losing Cole to the Yankees. The Astros return the best lineup in baseball, anchored by Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa and George Springer. The rotation features Justin Verlander and Zach Greinke, giving Houston electric stuff at the top. The main concern here is how does a tumultuous offseason impact the Astros if at all, and does Oakland have enough to make them a wild card team?
