12. Sam Darnold, New York Jets

There are no two ways to slice it – Darnold has not been a very good quarterback over his first two years in the NFL. Not only has he missed six games during that span with injury, but he’s also completed only 59 percent of his passes and has 36 touchdowns against 28 interceptions.

But, in 2019 the  Jets posted a 7-6 record in Darnold’s 13 starts including six of their last eight contests. Perhaps Darnold, and the Jets, have turned the corner. But, the sample size is too small to rank him ahead of other, more established quarterbacks in the conference.

11. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders have surrounded Carr with the most complete team of his career. They have an excellent offensive line, one of the best young running backs in Josh Jacobs, and now have added multiple fast, reliable pass-catchers which

This is a prove-it year for Carr. Can he return to the form that saw him make three straight Pro Bowls early in his career? Or, will he be replaced by Marcus Mariota mid-year, and by a rookie draft pick during the offseason? Time will tell, but the last two years do little to inspire a great deal of confidence.
