Oregon football: 5 Ducks poised for breakout seasons in 2020
By Nick Villano
1. Oregon football breakout players: Noah Sewell
You already know about Penei Sewell, Oregon’s All-American left tackle, but get ready for his younger brother to make a name for himself at Oregon too.
Paired with Flowe, Noah Sewell gives Oregon a dangerous group of young linebackers for the rest of the Pac-12 to contend with. The competition at linebacker is too good to have two first-year players start, but Sewell is too good to keep on the bench. Cristobal is going to find a place for him on this defense, and he’s going to reward him for that.
Sewell has some of the best closing speed we’ve seen in a long time from a recruit. The ability to read the quarterback in coverage, then jump on the ball as a linebacker is second to none. Then, add on his ability to get in the backfield. We see Sewell as a second and third-down linebacker this season.
Sewell is going to be a monster eventually, but for now, let him be a nuisance. His name should become one that finds its way into the national lexicon, and we see him getting better as the season goes on. We see Sewell actually making a huge play in a huge game at the end of the season. If the Ducks make it to the Pac-12 Championship, then possibly the College Football Playoff, we predict Sewell makes a game-changing play (an interception for touchdown maybe).
