3. Florida bold predictions: Kyle Trask is a dark-horse Heisman candidate

Ohio State’s Justin Fields and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence are the co-favorites, then everyone fills in after them. Trask is actually falling down boards in terms of bettors. He’s currently sitting ninth among all candidates, with around 21/1 odds. He’s behind names like Georgia quarterback Jamie Newman, Alabama quarterback Mac Jones and UNC quarterback Sam Howell.

Trask is going to immediately skyrocket once he beats LSU. Beating the defending National Champion is going to put any quarterback into the national conversation for the top award. Maybe he’s not the favorite, but people are going to look back at one year prior to what Joe Burrow did and race to the betting booths. Burrow changed what a lot of bettors might be looking for this season.

Lawrence and Fields are still going to be the favorite, and it’s not going to be close for a long time. However, everyone will talk about Trask among those names at least temporarily.

Trask is a stupendous talent, and he’s no doubt the best quarterback in the SEC. If a player is the top quarterback in any of the Power 5 conferences, bettors have to pay attention if they want to dabble in the Heisman odds.

Trask will eventually lose, and we don’t even think he will make it to New York City at the end of the season. His star will fade, mostly because of our next slide.
