NFL power rankings: Which NFC quarterback is best?
8. Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This may be a highly unpopular take, but you can put this set of rankings firmly in the camp of not believing in the majesty of Brady any longer. Last season was clear regression for the future Pro Football Hall of Famer – he had his lowest completion percentage in nearly a decade, his lowest full-season yards total since 2010, and his lowest touchdown figure since 2006.
Don’t get me wrong, Brady is still a very smart quarterback. But, in 2019 it appeared he’d lost arm strength, and all semblance of what little mobility he had.
Now on the Bucs, Brady will be challenged with an inadequate running game and an offensive line that may make him miss New England. But he also has the best set of pass catchers he’s ever had. With his longtime target Rob Gronkowski coming out of retirement to join him, fellow tight end O.J. Howard, and wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin – Brady will have no one to blame but himself if he can’t get the job done.
7. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
The 2019 No. 1 overall pick has superstar potential which could put him into conversation as one of the top young quarterbacks in football.
Last season, Murray showed growing pains one can expect for a rookie quarterback with a first-year head coach and a relatively bad football team around him. Still, Murray passed for over 3,700 yards, 20 touchdowns and finished with a respectable 87.4 passer rating.
Now, Murray should have a full, healthy season of his top running back in Kenyon Drake and they’ve added a bonafide superstar at receiver in De’Andre Hopkins. He’ll pair nicely with future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald.
Expect a lot of passing and a lot of points in the desert this year.
