2021 NFL mock draft: Justin Fields heads to Jaguars
The Seahawks have spent a lot of capital in the offense over the last couple of years and as such, the defense will soon need its attention as well. No position is more in need for them than the cornerback group, which features a stable of relative unknowns and no standout players that the team has traditionally been built around.
Enter Patrick Surtain II from the Crimson Tide. Surtain’s father was a long-time NFL player – and that name recognition won’t hurt Surtain when the NFL is watching type.
It also doesn’t hurt that Surtain is a legitimate shutdown corner with All-Pro potential at the position. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, he has ideal size to play in any defensive system and will excel in Seattle playing for Pete Carroll’s team.
The Super Bowl LIV Champions are the betting favorites to repeat in 2020 and if they do, they’ll be sitting in the same draft position where they can simply take the best player available.
The No. 1 rule of having a franchise quarterback in place that you believe in completely, is you must keep him healthy and upright. The Chiefs will have to start making important decisions along the offensive line, especially as both starting tackles are due for extensions or free agency over the next two years. But, the interior offensive line is a real weakness for the unit.
Creed Humphrey can radically begin to right the ship. He is powerful and can beat most defensive tackles at the point of attack, but also has excellent footwork to excel in any scheme. He is the best center prospect in years, and would be a dream come true for Patrick Mahomes.
