Larry Warford: Seattle Seahawks

The New Orleans Saints, somewhat surprisingly, cut three-time Pro Bowl guard Larry Warford in the offseason after drafting Cesar Ruiz. The veteran guard could be a valuable addition for a playoff contender, and the Seattle Seahawks seem like the perfect match.

Seattle’s offensive line has been subpar for years, and adding Warford for cheap will help establish the Seahawks as one of the NFC’s elite teams. General manager John Schneider’s continued inability to surround Russell Wilson with quality protection has held back Seattle from making a deep playoff run, but adding Warford is a no-brainer.

Wilson’s brilliant play has made the Seahawks a perennial playoff team, but ignoring the offensive line seems like a bad team-building strategy. Wilson can improvise and escape pressure better than any quarterback in the league, but adequate protection will make things easier on him.

Warford is also reliable, missing just 11 games in his NFL career. Fresh off of three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, Warford is still in his prime. Finding offensive line talent for cheap is nearly impossible outside of the NFL Draft, but Warford’s free agency gives Seattle the opportunity to do so.

If Schneider misses this chance, it will be the next instance of the Seahawks completely ignoring one of football’s most important position groups, and representative of a larger organizational failure to surround Wilson with the level of talent that he deserves.
