8. Bryce Perkins and 7. Josh Love, QB, L.A. Rams

The L.A. Rams have a surprisingly blank slate after starter Jared Goff on the active roster, which is why the competition of Josh Love and Bryce Perkins as newly signed undrafted free agents is an important one to watch. It’s quite possible that both quarterbacks are rendered obsolete by the presence of incumbent backup John Wolford, but Wolford himself is a former UDFA who looked solid but not spectacular one preseason ago.

There’s a very real chance for either Perkins or Love to go from undrafted to QB2 on a playoff team in this shortened preseason. A San Jose State product, Love doesn’t look the part as an undersized prospect but his courage under pressure more than makes up for any size concerns. His injury history, competition questions, and accuracy issues all kept him from being drafted, but he still landed in a good spot in L.A., where head coach Sean McVay is going to love his moxie, his vision, and his reads. Love is also a favorite of Pro Football Focus, who named him a top UDFA signing.

As for Perkins, the Virginia star looks the part at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. in the pocket and is a dual-threat star who thrives due to his athleticism. Opposing defenses must respect Perkins’ ability to run and he’s got the combination of pro-level strength and accuracy to make the necessary throws. McVay is going to love the potential here, but Perkins will need a major coaching investment to develop mentally and mechanically to adjust fast enough to make the roster.
