5. Chris Finke, WR, San Francisco 49ers

You might believe the San Francisco 49ers would feature such a loaded roster that any undrafted free agent would face a steeper challenge to make an impact, but the Niners were particularly high on Notre Dame wide receiver Chris Finke for a reason. After giving him a $95K signing bonus, it’s clear that Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch like what they’ve seen from the former Irish player.

Last season, the smallish Finke had only 41 catches for 456 yards and 4 touchdowns. If that sounds unimpressive, it’s true that Finke doesn’t bring a tremendous body of work to the Niners (106 catches, 1,251 yards, 8 touchdowns in his career), but his elusive skill set earned him “The Slippery Fox,” and it’s here that he’ll potentially find his niche with the 49ers. The most common pro comparison is with Raiders receiver Hunter Renfrow.

Finke is already plenty familiar with this uphill climb after having walked on to Brian Kelly‘s program at Notre Dame. With the Niners, Finke can carve out space on special teams and potentially some opportunities in the slot if he impresses early or injuries arise.
