2. Kyle Murphy, OL, New York Giants

The New York Giants invested three picks on the offensive side of the ball in the 2020 NFL Draft and all of them were offensive linemen. Andrew Thomas was the team’s first-round pick. Matthew Peart was taken in the third round. Shane Lemieux was selected in the fifth. It sounds a bit weird then that a solid bet might be a fourth rookie lineman in rookie free agent Kyle Murphy.

A Rhode Island product, Murphy is a longshot (like all UDFAs) who comes to the Giants armed with plenty of experience and versatility. At 6-foot-4, 302 pounds, Murphy has a nice strong frame and he’s used it to block at every possible spot along the line in 36 total starts. In fact, the only position at which he didn’t start for the Rams was at right guard.

The Giants paid Murphy more money than any other undrafted prospect this spring, and it will be interesting to see how his solid footwork and athleticism translate to an NFL training camp. The Giants have plenty of competitors competing for these backup spots along the interior, but Murphy has the ability to step into several positions. That might give him the edge when active rosters are due.
