DraftKings MLB picks July 24: Will MadBum dominate in Phoenix?
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings MLB one-off picks:
BvP is one of the most polarizing things among statheads, especially when it comes to daily fantasy games. What it means is going by a batter’s past stats against the night’s pitcher.
I am one of those that closely follow this. Of course it doesn’t tell the whole story. That is especially true in small sample sizes. However, this is a good way to weed through some of the one-off plays aside from your core stack that can help you take down a large pool GPP.
I’m not a huge fan of running Samardzija against the Dodgers, but he wasn’t horrible against them last year. He did pick up 36 DraftKings points in three starts, so a full stack makes me nervous. I don’t mind picking a spot or two though.
It’s a small sample size against Alcantara, but the Phillies have hit him well. That said, Alcantara still hasn’t allowed a homer to them. For that reason I’m not a huge fan of stacking on him.
Stacking the Orioles seems a sure-fire way to lose money, but Eovaldi has been hit hard by a couple of them. His strikeout upside is nice, but lots of balls leave the yard against Eovaldi.
Bryce Harper vs. Sandy Alcantara: 6/12(.500), 0 HR, 2 RBI
Renato Nunez vs. Nathan Eovaldi: 5/6(.833), 2 HR, 6 RBI
Chris Davis vs. Nathan Eovaldi: 4-13(.308), 2 HR, 3 RBI
Daniel Murphy vs. Lance Lynn: 8/20(.400), 1 HR, 7 RBI
Jose Altuve vs. Marco Gonzales: 6/15(.400), 1 HR, 5 R, 2 RBI
Josh Reddick vs. Marco Gonzales: 6/12(.500), 1 HR, 3 R, 2 RBI
Kyle Seager vs. Justin Verlander: 10/36(.278), 4 HR, 10 RBI, 1 SB
Wil Myers vs. Madison Bumgarner: 8/47(.170), 3 HR, 4 RBI, 3 SB
Fernando Tatis, Jr. vs. Madison Bumgarner: 4/6(.667), 1 HR, 2 RBI
AJ Pollock vs. Jeff Samardzija: 6/18(.333), 2 HR, 4 RBI
Cody Bellinger vs. Jeff Samardzija: 3/11(.273), 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 BB
Mike Yastrzemski vs. Ross Stripling: 2/2, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Shohei Ohtani vs. Frankie Montas: 3/6(.500), 1 HR, 2 RBI
Seager will be in every lineup for me tonight as a one-off. No one else is worth running at Verlander, but one break from the normal can separate us from the higher owned stacks.
