Every Blue Jays player took a knee ahead of season opener.
The Toronto Blue Jays have had quite a busy week but they still took the time to honor the Black Lives Matter movement. The team was notified just days before their season opener they’d be unable to play at their home stadium due to the Canadian government’s worry over the players traveling through the United States. Now, playing mostly in Buffalo, NY the team made a bold statement.
In a video posted by the team, you can see every player taking a knee before their season opener with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Blue Jays aren’t the only team to make the Black Lives Matter movement
The Blue Jays aren’t the only team to make the Black Lives Matter movement the forefront of their season.
Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers have BLM printed on their mound. The Rays official Twitter tweeted, “Today is Opening Day, which means it’s a great day to arrest the killers of Breonna Taylor.” The Boston Red Sox retweeted that message as well. Many players have taken a knee during the National Anthem and have worn Black Lives Matter shirts and other apparel.
At press time the Blue Jays were leading the Rays 3-0 in the fourth inning.
