1. The Kansas City Chiefs will repeat as Super Bowl Champions

Unfortunately for Brees, Payton and the Saints, they’ll meet the NFL’s version of a buzzsaw in the sport’s biggest game, and the Kansas City Chiefs will repeat as Super Bowl Champions.

We’ve detailed above what the Kansas City offense looks like in 2020 – its the Super Bowl Champion lineup, plus the best skill position player in the 2020 NFL Draft. They’ll all join the coaching staff with the most continuity from a season ago, the offensive line that returns every Week One starter, and the most brilliant offensive play-caller in the sport, Andy Reid. The Chiefs offense may be unstoppable in 2020, like 2018 on steroids.

But the real magic may end up on the defensive side of the ball. A year ago at this time, the team faced a complete overhaul on defense. A new head coach, a new scheme, and no less than eight new starters from 2018 were featured in the Week One lineup, and the team took some time to get acclimated. Over the last six weeks of the season, however, with headliner offseason acquisition Frank Clark fully healthy and the best free-agent signing in years Tyrann Mathieu fully in control, the Chiefs defense was one of the top five in all of football. The unit struggled in the first half of all three postseason games — but was nearly impenetrable in the second half of all three contests, and other-worldly in the games’ fourth quarters. Mahomes got all the spotlight, but the defense was fantastic through the last ten games.

The defense will be better in 2020, too. Not only is the team not implementing a new system, But they also return all but two integral pieces from a season ago (linebacker Reggie Ragland and cornerback Kendall Fuller both left in free agency). In addition, the team adds back pass rushers who spent good chunks of last season on injured reserve, with the return of Alex Okafor and Breeland Speaks. While the team made no big free-agent splashes, Antonio Hamilton at cornerback is a sneaky good move, and resigning last season’s best mid-year free agent signing, Mike Pennel, is crucial to the run defense. The best acquisition for the team’s defense, though, was second-round pick Willie Gay, Jr. If not for off the field concerns in college, Gay, Jr. would have been a first-round pick. He’s a legitimate stud who can pay anywhere on the field and do it all. The last time the Chiefs swung on a premier defender with character concerns, they ended up with All-Pro pass rusher Justin Houston.
