1. Desmond King, CB/S, Los Angeles Chargers

King has become a draft steal for the Chargers (fifth round in 2017). In 2018, he had 62 total tackles, 10 pass breakups and three interceptions on his way to earning an All-Pro nod. He took a step back last year, (0 interceptions, two pass breakups), but he did still have 2.5 sacks with 51 total tackles.

The Chargers signed Chris Harris Jr. in free agency. He was one of the best in the business as a slot corner for years with the Denver Broncos, and he’s expected to play that role primarily again with his new team. He’s also an upgrade to the cornerback room.

That may mean the writing is on the wall for King, who has been the Chargers’ slot corner, as he’s also entering the final year of his rookie contract. He isn’t well-suited to be a perimeter corner, and it’s not as if there’s a big role available there anyway with Casey Hayward and Michael Davis manning those spots.

King can play corner or safety, which bolsters his trade value, and going back to his college days at Iowa he is something of a ball hawk. The Vikings surfaced as a possible suitor, but nothing has come of that yet. So there’s an opportunity for the Cowboys to swoop in and add a significant piece to their secondary in the wake of losing out on Adams. Right or wrong (I say wrong since King is a very good player), the price might be low as the Chargers look for some sort of return on a player they have no significant role for right now and seem to have no future plans for.
