DraftKings MLB picks July 28: And Justus for all
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings MLB one-off picks:
BvP is one of the most polarizing things among statheads, especially when it comes to daily fantasy games. What it means is going by a batter’s past stats against the night’s pitcher. This can be the best place for mining one-off plays to differentiate your lineups though.
Anthony Castro has never pitched above AA, and the top of the Royals order has looked pretty good. If you use Royals, use from the top five in the order. I wouldn’t stack this unless you are looking for leverage. There are much better places to stack.
I don’t know if I trust Lindblom despite his monster KBO season last year. Josh Bell and Adam Frazier are the guys I’m using to take a couple of shots at him with tonight. Truth be told, it may be best to just avoid this whole thing. Right now there are plenty of other games to stack.
The Royals put today’s probable starter in last night in relief of Montgomery, so who knows who they start. As of this writing, it’s still unknown. If it’s a lefty, stack Tigers. If it’s a righty, stick to just Goodrum.
I’m liking Pete Alonso against Matt Hall tonight. Amed Rosario and JD Davis are worth a look as well, but as with most, I think there are better stack options than attacking an unknown.
The Twins are always a threat to hit home runs. If you’re going to take your shot with Twins today, stick to the hot hands of Nelson Cruz and Max Kepler.
George Springer has homered against Walker Buehler before, but I’m limiting my Astros exposure to a max of two per lineup, even in large field GPP’s. A lot has to go right for you to come out ahead on that bet.
Framber Valdez was much better at home last year. The Dodgers have a lot of cheap right-handed bats that could come up big against the youngster here. I’ll have some exposure to Kike and Chris Taylor for sure, depending on how much cash I need.
Mike Trout is always in play against a lefty, but I see better ways to spend that kind of money. I don’t really want to chase Sheffield at all. There are better spots.
Senzatela looked enough better in the summer that I’m not stacking against him in the cavernous Oakland Coliseum. However, I will have some A’s exposure, especially to the Matt’s (Olson and Chapman).
Ryan Braun ($4,000) vs. Derek Holland: 3-7(.429), 2 BB, 3B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI
Justin Smoak($3,600) vs. Derek Holland: 9-31(.290), 4 BB, 3 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI
Kole Calhoun ($3,800) vs. Kyle Gibson: 6-20(.300), 3 BB, 2B, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI
I will be running a lot of Cardinals stacks and I will have plenty of exposure to Brewers righties against Holland. This is a slate to attack weaker pitchers with egregious splits.
