Most Career Passing Attempts

Drew Brees has been busy over the last couple seasons re-writing the NFL record books in a number of categories, and he’s poised to break yet another career mark within the first half of the New Orleans Saints’ first game unless something drastic happens—either an injury or a complete change in the team’s offensive philosophy. That’s because Brees sits only 8 completions behind Brett Favre for the most passing attempts in an NFL career.

At present, Brees has 10,161 passing attempts in his career while Favre has 10,169. Brees should, well, breeze right by Favre against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the season opener and establish a new norm at season’s end. If Brees does retire as expected after the 2020 season, the list of accomplishments and records will be remarkably long at his press conference given that he’s also the NFL’s leader in completions, passing yards, passing touchdowns and completion rate.

Interestingly enough, the quarterback in that season opener on the opposing side is Tom Brady, who sits at No. 3 all time on the same list with 9,988. Brady should eclipse Favre’s mark this season as well, but he’ll need another year in the NFL to catch Brees.
