Alabama football bold prediction No. 3: Christian Barmore hits 10+ sacks

Though Alabama should have one of the best defenses in college football, one of the big questions is where their pass rush is going to come from. By the Crimson Tide’s standards, they were a bit lackluster in generating sacks a season ago and their top-two contributors in that regard, edge rushers Anfernee Jennings and Terrell Lewis, are now in the NFL.

The likes of Ben Davis, King Mwikuta and others will need to contribute coming off of the edge. Having said that, defensive tackle Christian Barmore, a redshirt sophomore, might be the most critical piece of the front seven when it comes to getting after the quarterback. As such, he’s primed for a game-changing type of year.

In the 2017 season, a redshirt freshman defensive lineman named Quinnen Williams flashed potential in limited work, coming up with 2.0 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. The next year, he exploded as a superstar for the defense, racking up 8.0 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss. Barmore could be in line to make the same type of leap from last year into the 2020 campaign.

Barmore only got limited work last season but he flashed unbelievable potential in the process, ending the year with 26 total tackles, 2.0 sacks and 6.0 tackles for loss. Now, he should be in line for a huge increase in his number of snaps and has the talent to be a game-wrecker. In the same vein as Williams, he’ll come up big and register a double-digit sack season.
