8. WR Darius Slayton, New York Giants

Last offseason, the New York Giants dealt superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns. This was a team that had some capable pass-catchers in wide out Sterling Shepard and tight end Evan Engram. The club would also sign veteran Golden Tate as well. He was suspended the first four games of the season but the former Lions’ and Eagles’ standout finished third on the club with 49 receptions and second in both receiving yards (676) and touchdown grabs (6).

But the team really struck gold when general manager Dave Gettleman used a fifth-round draft choice on a talented wide receiver from Auburn University. Darius Slayton got off to a slow start with the club but when it was all said and done he wound up playing in 14 games – after missing the first two weeks – and made nine starts. He finished right behind Tate with 48 grabs but led Big Blues with 740 receiving yards and eight TD receptions. In the team’s final seven contests, Slayton amassed 31 catches, good for 467 yards and five trips to the end zone.

Via Matt Lombardo of NJ.com, the 23-year-old performer has an opportunity to take another step forward this season, one in which fellow second-year quarterback Daniel Jones is now the established starter.
