Georgia football bold prediction No. 4: Jamie Newman transfer changes the offense.

Throughout his career at Georgia, much to the chagrin of many fans at times, Jake Fromm was steady-Eddie at quarterback. He was never spectacular at the position but, because Kirby Smart trusted him, he retained the job over more gifted athletes such as Jacob Eason and Justin Fields, who have since transferred out of Athens.

But with Fromm departing for the NFL, we’re about to see a big change at Georgia. Jamie Newman is transferring in from Wake Forest and offers a ton of upside at the position. He’s a dual-threat player who offers way more versatility and playmaking ability than Fromm ever could’ve hoped to. That could open up the offense in a major way.

In 12 games as the starter for the Demon Deacons last year, Newman showcased his phenomenal ability. He went 220-of-361 for 2,868 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while also rushing for 574 yards and six scores as well. The quarterback is unafraid to take shots down the field, which could better utilize the Bulldogs’ pass-catching weapons and open things up.

At the same time, Newman hasn’t faced SEC-caliber competition ever in his career as he comes from Wake Forest. Maybe that will pour a bucket of cold water on the hype and he’ll struggle. What’s clear, however, is that the signal-caller’s performance is the linchpin of the Georgia football season as he could take them from good to great to possibly winning the natty.
