Michigan football bold prediction No. 1: Wolverines finish 8-2, miss Big Ten Championship

Predicting how Michigan is going to finish the 2020 season right now is a bit difficult just because of the given circumstances. The new Big Ten schedule has yet to be announced, though we do know that it will be 10 games. What we don’t know is who is going to be on the schedule — as mentioned when talking about Minnesota — or how those games will shake out in terms of timing.

However, when you look at the current hierarchy of the conference and consider Michigan’s place among them, putting them as a two-loss team at the end of a 10-game slate feels appropriate for the Wolverines.

For as talented as McCaffrey is and the potential that he has with the talented weapons around him, what about what we saw from Josh Gattis or at any time in Harbaugh’s tenure in Ann Arbor makes you truly believe the offense is going to take a massive step forward? Even if it’s better, there’s still a long way to go to compete with Ohio State or put up points on a defense the caliber of Penn State’s.

To be sure, Michigan should be able to pick up wins against most teams in the Big Ten. But when it comes to the rival Buckeyes, that’s a surefire loss in my book. And then a loss to someone like Penn State, Minnesota or Wisconsin, depending on what the final schedule looks like, also feels likely.

The big question is if an 8-2 season amid the current national circumstances is enough for Harbaugh to keep his job or not.
