David Njoku apparently no longer wants out of Cleveland

It’s been a long offseason for the Cleveland Browns with mostly positive developments, but David Njoku’s trade request earlier this month looked to be a potential downer, as the team would ideally have their young tight end on the roster to pair with the newly-acquired Austin Hooper. The Browns also drafted Harrison Bryant out of Florida Atlantic, marking a looming exit for Njoku should he not get a clear answer as to if he resides in Kevin Stefanski’s future plans.

Thankfully for Browns fans, Njoku is back on board after talking with Stefanski this weekend.

“We believe in David, excited to work with him,” Stefanski said, via the team website. “I’ll get to finally be in the same room as him this weekend – he’s coming in for physicals – and then get out on the field with him Monday. Excited to work with him.”

That quote was met with similar enthusiasm from Njoku, who tweeted out on Saturday that he is all-in on the coming season.

With Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham, Jr. still on the outside, Baker Mayfield has all the weapons necessary to make the Browns a true threat in the AFC. Should he fail to do so, the Browns may have to consider finding a quarterback who can successfully spread the ball around, or at the very least get the ball to Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in space on a consistent basis.

Stefanski’s war chest is full of exciting weapons, and if Njoku can return to his pre-injury form, he’ll be a handful in the AFC North, especially when going up against linebackers who aren’t accustomed to playing a so-called No. 2 tight end of his caliber.
