1. Bill Belichick

Only Hall of Famers Don Shula and George Halas have won more games in NFL history as head coaches. And no sideline leader in league annals has taken his team to more Super Bowls (9) and hoisted more Lombardi Trophies (6). Bill Belichick took over the New England Patriots in 2000 and the club finished 5-11. Since 2001, the team has put together 19 consecutive winning campaigns and been to the playoffs 17 times over that stretch. And the Pats have captured 11 straight division titles, far and away the longest streak in NFL history.

Of course, celebrated quarterback Tom Brady is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A slew of other veterans have signed elsewhere and safety Duron Harmon was traded to the Detroit Lions. And the club has had a number of players opt out of 2020 due to the pandemic, including linebacker Dont’a Hightower and safety Patrick Chung. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of talent remaining on the roster in Foxborough.

Of course, there is Belichick. He’s done wonders before with Brady either sidelined or suspended. The team’s first Super Bowl-winning postseason in 2001 saw the Patriots’ offensive unit score three touchdowns in as many games. There are a means and a way to his prowess and betting against him may not be the wisest of decisions.
