1. Ben Roethlisberger is still a star

In a strange way, the Steelers should be applauded for finishing at 8-8 with their starting quarterback missing 14 games last season. It’s even more interesting to point out that Pittsburgh actually went 8-6 in the 14 games that Roethlisberger missed.

The takeaway here isn’t that the Steelers are better off without Big Ben. Instead, it should be that Tomlin did an incredible job keeping this team competitive despite their struggles at quarterback. Weaker teams would have folded up and gone 2-14. Pittsburgh showed immense mental toughness last year.

That should pay off now that Big Ben is healthy and ready to go. It’s easy to forget just how good he is. Roethlisberger might be entering the twilight of his career, but his arm strength is still well above the league average. Combine that with his willingness to extend plays in the pocket and it’s easy to see how he powers the Steelers offense to so many big plays.

Next. James Washington is a huge wild card for the Steelers. dark

Roethlisberger isn’t going to play at an MVP level in 2020, but projecting him to throw for 5,000 yards and make the Pro Bowl is a very realistic expectation. If Big Ben bounces back to that level, the Steelers have what it takes to make a magical run to another Super Bowl title.
