The Seattle Seahawks reportedly have interest in signing Everson Griffen and Clay Matthews.

While Seahawks fans everywhere are holding their breath to see if John Schneider and Pete Carroll will work their magic to bring back Jadeveon Clowney for this upcoming season, it looks like the Seattle front office is busy working on other options as well.

And for fans, they’re surely going to like the latest updates out of the Emerald City. Per reports, the Seahawks have interest in signing former Pro Bowlers Everson Griffen and Clay Matthews.

Should the Hawks end up bringing them both into town, it’d be massive news for the team’s defense.

Everson Griffen could be the ideal replacement for Jadeveon Clowney in Seattle

The Seahawks already made a monster splash this offseason in improving its defense, making a blockbuster trade with the New York Jets to land superstar safety Jamal Adams. Adding Adams alone has taken the defense to new levels. Adding players like Matthews and Griffen would only take things one step further.

With Griffen specifically, he’d be the replacement for Clowney if Seattle ends up signing him. As much as everyone in Seattle would love for Clowney to return to the 206, he’s seeking a big contract and Seattle doesn’t look willing to meet his demands at this point.

While Griffen may not be as sexy as an option as a pass-rusher, he’d be much cheaper and would still be a tremendous addition. With Matthews, the veteran outside linebacker may be 34 years old, but he still lays the lumber with ferocity and his signing also wouldn’t break the bank.

Hang on to your hats, Seahawks fans. It looks like some big news could be coming sooner than later in regards to both Matthews and Griffen potentially suiting up for the team this season.

Next. Seahawks may have just shut the door on re-signing Jadeveon Clowney. dark
