The Big Ten has canceled the fall college football season and hopes to play in the spring, but it’s no certainty that Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields will be around for it.

There will be no Big Ten football season this fall as the conference was the first Power 5 league to pull the plug on the season amid the COVID-19 uncertainties.

This is devastating news for the players, coaches, fans and everyone affected by this decision that could send ripple effects throughout the rest of the nation as other conferences make their decision about moving forward with a season or postponing until the spring.

Ohio State was the preseason No. 2 team in the nation with a great chance at adding another national championship banner and perhaps another Heisman Trophy with betting favorite Justin Fields in line for a monster year.

But without a fall football season, it stands to wonder if we’ve seen the last of Fields in an Ohio State uniform.

Will Justin Fields transfer to play another college season, and where could that be, or will he just declare for the NFL Draft?

Fields is a projected top-10 pick in the NFL Draft. With a full season, he could have been a top-3 pick, but he won’t have that opportunity. But can he have an opportunity elsewhere?

That all depends if the SEC, ACC and Big 12 move forward with their season. The Pac-12 is reportedly going to follow the Big Ten’s lead in canceling the fall season.

So could Fields transfer to one of the schools in those conferences?

Yes, it’s possible that Fields could transfer to play another season if those leagues have a fall season. The chances of that happening are not strong, however. The most likely outcome is Fields will declare for the 2021 NFL Draft and spend the fall and winter months preparing for the NFL Draft in late April rather than learning a new playbook, adjusting to new teammates on an inferior team than the one he leaves behind all while getting comfortable on a new campus.

That said, if Fields wants to play and there are leagues still playing, literally every school in America outside of Clemson where Trevor Lawrence has the quarterback spot locked up, they’d all love to have a dual-threat talent and first-class person that Fields is.

Unfortunately, for college football fans, the chances of seeing Fields play another college football game took a significant shot with the Big Ten’s announcement and the next time we see Fields in a uniform will be in the NFL.
