President Donald Trump doesn’t want the NFL to return if there will be kneeling.

President Donald Trump was talking sports on the radio Tuesday morning and his comments were perfectly on-brand. He spoke with Fox Sports Radio and one key topic was whether he will be watching the NFL this fall.

Trump has never been a huge football fan, but his remarks regarding the NFL should come as a surprise to no one.

Trump maintains view of NFL players kneeling

The focus for Trump was on players kneeling during the national anthem.

"“Well, they want to open and they want to open badly, and they’ve been working with government. I would say this: If they don’t stand for that national anthem, I hope they don’t open,” Trump said. “But other than that, I’d love to see them open and we’re doing everything possible for getting them open. They can protest in other ways. They shouldn’t protest our flag or our country.”"

Did anyone expect a different answer? Trump has been against such a demonstration since his campaign days back in 2016 and it has become part of his platform. We are in another election year and he is going to continue to keep his talking points in order for his base.

The weird thing about his view is that he fails to realize the NFL will be just fine with or without his support. By now, it’s nothing more than a talking point.

Trump also took time to bash NBA players at a time when the league is executing the finish to a season in a safe manner during a global pandemic.

The NFL seems set to play a full season and players kneeling during the national anthem should be the least of anyone’s concerns. The main focus should be on keeping everyone safe during an ongoing pandemic.

Individuals have the right to swear off the NFL because of players kneeling during the national anthem. Assuming football is actually played, that will be the primary focus of fans moving forward, anyway, leaving Trump’s loud opinions to fade into the background.
