LeBron James is serving the Los Angeles community in a unique way this election cycle

Among his many ventures outside of basketball, LeBron James started a voting rights group some time ago, and its focus is squarely on the upcoming 2020 election. With the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the state of California, an already-tough voting system for those in poverty will become nearly impossible for some. James is doing what he can to help, however, partnering with the Dodgers to make Dodger Stadium a popular polling place in its community.

“Dodger Stadium is part of the fabric of Los Angeles, and we’re proud to continue to partner with the County to make the property available for the benefit of the community at large,” Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a news release, per ESPN. “Voting is all of our civic duty, and we’re excited to work with More Than a Vote to do anything we can to help get out the vote by making this process as easy, accessible and safe for all Angelenos.”

LeBron James’ community outreach is part of what makes him such an inspiration

The Dodgers previously used the stadium as an epicenter for COVID-19 testing in recent months. James getting involved in the community is nothing new, and as he lays his roots in Los Angeles, it should come as no surprise that he’s already making an impact.

“I may still be new to L.A. but didn’t take long for me to learn how special the relationship is between the Dodgers and Lakers. We are all in this together,” James said in the news release. “I’m really proud we were able to help the Dodgers become the first MLB stadium to open for voting. This is exactly why we created More Than a Vote. A lot of us now working together and here for every team who wants to follow the Dodgers lead and turn their stadium into a safer place for voting.”

James’ organization comes with the understanding that as powerful as the voices of minority communities have become in recent months, acting upon those values at the ballot box is imperative.
