2. Unsung offensive line continues to excel

Led by extremely-reliable right tackle Mitchell Schwartz and featuring left tackle Eric Fisher (the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft), Andy’s Reid’s offensive line gets the job done. And this important aspect of the team came up big during a successful three-game postseason run in which Andy Reid’s team scored a combined 117 points and 16 offensive touchdowns. During that stretch, the Chiefs averaged 119.7 rushing yards per game and quarterback Patrick Mahomes was sacked only six times.

The latter wasn’t a big surprise considering the club allowed only 25 sacks in 16 contests. Only the Rams (22) and Cowboys (23) permitted fewer quarterback traps this past season. While Schwartz still hasn’t missed a game or start during his eight-year NFL career and center Austin Reiter was steady, this group overcame its share of injuries in 2019.  Fisher missed eight contests during the regular season and the club utilized his share of starters at left guard.

This unit will look a bit different this year. Right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif was a 14-game starter during the regular season as well as in all three of the team’s postseason affairs in 2019. But he has opted out of 2020 due to the concerns over the pandemic. But enter veteran Kelechi Osemele and the beat figures to go on.
