Chris Hogan signed a deal with the Jets

Chris Hogan was a thorn in the side of New York Jets fans during his time with the New England Patriots, as Tom Brady always seemed to find Hogan wide open whenever a clutch conversion was needed. Jets fans might need to change their opinion of Hogan ahead of the 2020 season, as he’s agreed to wear green and white in 2020.

After a fairly anonymous season with the Carolina Panthers, the Bergen County native has decided to go back home and sign with a local team, inking a deal with the Jets, per Tom Pelissero.

Chris Hogan will give Sam Darnold an experienced wide receiver

Now that Hogan has agreed to become a Jet, he will have played for every AFC East team. After latching onto the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad in 2012, Hogan moved to the Buffalo Bills, where he has two solid seasons before moving to the Patriots. He won two rings as a Patriot, totaling 1,651 yards and 12 touchdowns in three seasons. Hogan really struggled in Carolina, catching just eight passes for 67 yards in the entire season.

The Jets’ base 11 personnel is expected to feature rookie Denzel Mims, speed demon Breshad Perriman, and slot expert Jamison Crowder as their starting three receivers. While Hogan was assuredly signed to provide veteran depth, a hamstring injury suffered by Mims means Hogan might see the field plenty in the lead-up to the 2020 season.

Given how his primary role in New England was a vertical field-stretcher, expect him to perform in much the same fashion with the Jets.

Hogan, in need of a bounce-back season, took a bit of risk, as he is joining an Adam Gase-led team that has an inconsistent Sam Darnold at quarterback. However, if Darnold is able to establish a connection, Hogan’s ability to get open down the field will serve the Jets well in 2020.
