7. With Stefon Diggs in Buffalo, the Vikings will not miss a beat

Last autumn, Stefon Diggs offered rumblings of his unhappiness following a loss to the Chicago Bears. A short-term peace was made with the organization, but it was a precursor to Diggs’s departure. Minnesota sent him to Buffalo for a haul of draft picks, and in return, the Vikings selected LSU rookie Justin Jefferson to be their new WR2.

Diggs broke out in 2019 in terms of deep-ball prowess. Because he was electric in stretching the field, the odd assumption nationally is that quarterback Kirk Cousins will be hamstrung without Diggs. It’s a bizarre theory.

In Cousins’ eight-year career, he has thrown 40 touchdowns of 30+ yards. Six of those 40 touchdowns have been caught by Stefon Diggs. Not as lopsided as it might seem.

The Vikings will still stretch the field with Adam Thielen, Justin Jefferson, and Irv Smith Jr. Minnesota also has one of the top running back groupings in the business with Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison, and Mike Boone. The team recently promoted Super Bowl champion Gary Kubiak to offensive coordinator. A former quarterback himself, Kubiak has a history of leading competent offenses and running the pigskin to set up the passing game.

Diggs’ enigmatic but exciting aura will be missed by the Vikings, but the team will move onward without yearning for the Bills wideout.
