Melvin Gordon & Phillip Lindsay

What do you get when you pair two former Pro Bowl running backs both coming off of down years and unleash them in the same backfield for a postseason contender? You get a fantastic rushing duo who can run all over the league for the entire season.

After bursting on the scene during his rookie year in 2018, Phillip Lindsay was less effective a season ago – averaging nearly a full yard less per carry while spending much of his time stuck in a struggling offense. But, he still surpassed the 1,000-yard mark on the year and showed flashes of the same explosiveness he did as a rookie.

What’s more, is that this offseason the Broncos also added veteran Melvin Gordon to the fold, signing him as a free agent from the Los Angeles Chargers. Gordon spent much of 2019 injured and was a mere shell of his former self, gaining only 600 yards on the season while scoring eight touchdowns. But now, he’s healthy. And, he chose the Broncos because he has something to prove – especially against his former team, who he’ll play twice this season.

And both Gordon and Lindsay will benefit from an improved Denver offensive line, one which adds veteran guard Graham Glasgow and rookie center Lloyd Cushenberry. These two should massively improve the offensive line, which will significantly upgrade the the running game. The pair will also benefit from an improved passing game, led by the aforementioned receivers and second year quarterback Drew Lock.

When all is said and done, Denver should be talented enough on offense to get out to an early lead with their passing game, and then drain the clock with their formidable rush attack. That is the foundation of a Super Bowl contender.
