2. Jamal Adams makes the secondary elite

Carroll’s best teams in Seattle have always been powered by truly dominant secondaries. Quietly, that group has been slipping for the Seahawks over the last several seasons. The acquisition of Jamal Adams from the Jets will turn the group’s momentum back in the right direction.

Admittedly, the Seahawks paid a steep price to acquire the star safety. The loss of two first round picks and Bradley McDougald will be felt by the franchise for years to come. It’s still a transaction that will give Seattle a major boost in 2020.

The team’s safety tandem of Adams and Marquise Blair will give opponents fits. Blair should spend most of his time patrolling the deep middle of the field. Adams, in sharp contrast, will lineup all over the place. He should make a ton of plays at the line of scrimmage for the Seahawks. That was a feature of his play for the Jets in 2019.

Safety isn’t the most highly-valued position in the modern NFL, but Adams is the type of playmaker who can transcend the typical value placed on his position. Don’t be surprised if he becomes a superstar in his new home.
