5 trade targets for the Golden State Warriors with No. 2 draft pick
4. Steven Adams
On the surface, trading a No. 2 pick for someone who isn’t an All-Star seems like a risky proposition at best. But can you imagine trying to score on a Warriors defense with Curry, Klay, Draymond and Steven Adams, or trying to stop the incredible passing of that foursome?
The Splash Brothers can already free themselves up well enough; just imagine trying to defend Steph or Klay off the dribble and getting hit with a bone-crushing screen from Adams. His rim-running presence would open things up on the perimeter as an intelligent passer capable of hitting open shooters from the short roll. Given the flashes the 20-year-old Bazley showed in the bubble, he’d be an enticing young wing to add to the mix as well.
For the Thunder, this kind of deal only happens if general manager Sam Presti is comfortable with punting on his team’s veterans for a full-scale rebuild. The 2019-20 season with Chris Paul and Danilo Gallinari was a blast, but CP3 helped restore his trade value as another season was shaved off that hefty contract, and Gallo is a free agent this summer. This might be the opportune moment to hit the reset button, and pocketing yet another extra first-round pick will never be an unattractive option in Presti’s eyes.
OKC might not be eager to take on Wiggins’ contract, and may push to keep Bazley out of the exchange because of it, but if it’s time for the Thunder to rebuild, this year’s No. 2 draft pick is a fine place to start, with Wiggins still green enough to hopefully improve with this young core in Oklahoma City.
