Safety Tyrann Mathieu is a great player who is playing a special hybrid position on the Chiefs defense where he is always in position to make plays. But outside of Mathieu, the Chiefs’ secondary is their weakest point.

Last season, Juan Thornhill started opposite of Mathieu in the backfield. He was solid, ending last season with three interceptions, but the Chiefs could definitely afford to find a third safety as Dan Sorensen’s contract is up after 2020.

This is where current Lions safety Duron Harmon comes in.

Harmon made a name for himself with the Patriots where he became known for making game winning interceptions, and then followed his defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to Detroit after Patricia was made Lions head coach.

But Patricia has not had much success in Detroit with his first squad going 6-10 in 2018 and then going 3-12-1 last season.

Harmon is slated to be a free agent after this season, and it is hard to imagine a player willingly staying with the Lions if he doesn’t have to. And Harmon will not require a huge contract, making him a better option than Sorensen who the Chiefs could afford to bring on and shore up their secondary.
