NBA Mock Draft: Timberwolves at No. 1 bring order to chaos
By Ian Levy
Landing at No. 2 is a weird slot for the Warriors. Towards the top of the draft, this pick probably has more value as a trade chip to chase a veteran difference-maker for next year’s championship run. If they had fallen a few more slots, they may have been pushed more significantly towards trying to find a young player who could help them in both the present and future. Functionally, there shouldn’t be much difference between No. 2 and No. 1 in expected value, especially in this class, but it’s just not quite as shiny a trade asset.
If LaMelo Ball is off the board, Killian Hayes may represent the best of both worlds. He’s a big point guard with polish, shooting and creation ability and the potential to play both on and off the ball. His versatility means he could appeal to several different teams if they’re looking at a mix of trades after draft night. If they end up keeping the pick, he could play a meaningful role next year by helping the Warriors return to their roots — the relentless movement of players and the ball, hunting open shots.
