NBA Mock Draft: Timberwolves at No. 1 bring order to chaos
By Ian Levy
Maxey is an electric guard, relentless in the open court and with his point-of-attack defense. His touch around the basket and in the mid-range makes him a viable three-level scoring prospect, even if his passing lags behind. The biggest question is what his outside shooting numbers will look like at the next level. He made just 29.2 percent of his 3s at Kentucky but he was a very good 3-point shooter in high school and was solid this season in the mid-range and from the free-throw line.
Landing at No. 8 is probably a huge disappointment for Knick fans. But Maxey is a solid get, someone who can play with R.J. Barrett and develop into a difference-maker at both ends. He might not necessarily have star upside but he’s going to be exciting, play incredibly hard and bring the kind of joyous bounce that Madison Square Garden desperately needs.
