2. Philadelphia Eagles

Outside of an array of injuries to the receiving corps, a weak secondary was Philadelphia’s biggest issue in 2019, with the Eagles ranking in the bottom half of the league in pass defense. Thomas could bring leadership to an inexperienced group, ensuring a return to the playoffs for the reigning NFC East champs.

The Eagles still have over $20 million in available cap space, so money would not be an issue at the veteran safety’s likely price tag. With Jalen Mills the current starter at the free safety position, Thomas would present a clear upgrade, and could help Philadelphia edge out Dallas as the favorite in the division.

Just a few years removed from a Super Bowl title, Philadelphia is still well within its window to contend for another championship. Thomas could pair with Darius Slay as another difference-maker in the secondary, with the Eagles already fielding a strong front four.

With the cap space and positional need both there, Philadelphia would be foolish to ignore Thomas if he becomes a free agent. Fresh off of three consecutive playoff appearances, adding a former All-Pro could put the Eagles in the same class as second-tier NFC contenders like the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers.

The Cowboys are also expected to go after Thomas if he is released, and if he plans to come to the NFC East, the Eagles would be wise to secure his services.
